The Latin American-influenced band Chicharron is releasing its new album "Estrella Tropical". The 10 songs impress with their expressive vocals, concise rhythms and memorable melodies. The interplay of traditional and electronic instruments in particular makes the album an interesting listening experience.
Consisting of 5 talented musicians, they enrich the band with their individual experiences. Antonin Cognet carries Chicharron with his voice and enlivens the band's compositions with his passion for chicha and rock'n'roll. Chilean multi-instrumentalist Hiram Muñoz is the Andean soul of the group and has already toured Latin America with groups such as Arperus. Farid Joneau is responsible for the driving beats of Chicharron. In addition to his career as a musician, in which he has performed with bands such as ArbaA and Sonido del Monte, Joneau also teaches contemporary dance classes at the Valence Conservatory. Sound engineer Rodrigo Leviman brings the songs to life in his own studio, Le Périf, giving the band's sound a wave of experimental electricity. Grégoire Sanchez studied jazz percussion at the CRR. As well as producing music videos, he organises performances, lectures and masterclasses on Afro-Latin cultures in Lyon with the ENSeguida association and the Colectivo Cimarrones. With "Estrella Tropical", Chicharron has created an explosive fusion of different Latin American-influenced music from different decades. Peruvian chicha from the 60s plays with progressive rock from the 70s, rounded off with Dominican merengue and Afro-Peruvian elements. The idea of Andean, Amazonian folklore hovers over everything. The sounds of analogue organs, Latin percussion and traditional instruments complement the powerful timbres of drums, electric guitar and Fender Rhodes bass. The lively back vocals of the musicians support the unique voices of the two lead singers and turn "Estrella Tropical" into a sunny journey of sound.
