"Phoenix", the seventh studio album by the exceptional French pianist, vocalist and composer Grégory Privat, depicts the cycle of life and the constant rebirth from the ashes through twelve expressive song constructs, true to the title "Phoenix", alternating between melancholy and dynamism.
Born in Martinique in 1984, Grégory Privat, son of José Privat (member of Malavoi), found his connection to music at an early age. After a classical music education in Toulouse, Privat began composing professionally and devoted himself to jazz and improvised music. The artist first attracted attention in the early 2000s through performances in French clubs or engagements with and for artists such as Stephane Belmondo, Guillaume Perret or Sonny Troupé. Grégory Privat won the Martial Solal Competition in 2008 and the Montreux Jazz Festival Piano Competition in 2010, before his debut album "Ki Kot" was released in 2011 to immediate critical acclaim and brought him attention and requests from the global jazz scene. In addition to his successful solo career, he also plays in Jacques Schwarz-Bart's ensemble and Lars Danielsson's Liberetto ensemble. "Phoenix" is the logical development of the 2020 album "Soley" and is a convincing concept album with a mixture of jazz, Creole urban song structures and electronic music. |
