The Nikolov-Ivanovic Undectet is an eleven-piece ensemble led by pianist Vladimir Nikolov and percussionist Srdjan Ivanovic. The band combines traditional and unconventional elements to create sophisticated, Balkan-inspired music that is emotionally and intellectually challenging. "Dystopia" is their third album, but also the first in a new, dynamic line-up that includes first-class musicians from France, Serbia, Macedonia and Bulgaria. It contains ten new compositions that were written during the pandemic and deal with themes such as freedom and dealing with extreme situations. The arrangements combine modern and traditional influences, including Balkan and African music. Vladimir Nikolov, born in 1979 in Skopje, Macedonia, began his musical career at the age of 14. He studied classical guitar and later jazz composition at the Amsterdam Conservatory.
