| The legendary Reinhard Lakomy would have celebrated his 80th birthday in January 2026. Now, lovingly curated by his wife Monika Ehrhardt Lakomy, his 1983 live performance at the Palast der Republik is being released for the first time on Lacky Musik via Kick The Flame.
Born in 1946 and passing away in 2013, the composer, arranger, pianist, and singer created an essential catalog of widely recognized music spanning schlager, jazz, rock, film scores, electronic music, as well as children’s musicals and radio plays. The multi-award-winning artist—honored with streets, kindergartens, and schools named after him—is probably best known to most through the children’s musical audio play “Der Traumzauberbaum, ” produced with his wife Monika Ehrhardt Lakomy. “Lacky” was a pioneer: at the time of this 1983 live recording, he had just released the very first electronic music recordings in East Germany on Amiga for the youth radio format DT64. Critics watched closely, fans celebrated. The concert opens with “Am Anfang” (Side A). Although Lakomy’s early influences from jazz and classical music aren’t immediately apparent—the music stands strongly on its own—they are felt in the quality and originality of the sound. “Solitär, ” the second part of the concert on Side B, represents the lone individual. Here, two musical solitaires meet: Reinhard Lakomy and Andreas Bicking (who has worked with Uschi Brüning, Veronika Fischer, Manfred Krug, Stern-Combo Meißen). Sometimes contrasting, sometimes organically integrated, Bicking’s saxophone expands Lakomy’s electronic soundscapes. This makes the second half of the concert a richly textured, vibrant sonic experience. |
