| For 30 years, Go Music has stood for exceptional live rock music at the highest level. To mark this anniversary, the fitting musical statement is now released as “Unvorherhörbar” on double CD and double vinyl via the Krefeld-based label A1 Records.
The successful concert series was founded by bassist and producer Martin Engelien (including work with the Klaus Lage Band, Albert Mangelsdorff, Tabaluga, and Helge Schneider). The idea was born in the late 1980s behind the scenes of the German TV show “Wetten, dass. . ?”, where musicians were increasingly reduced to background performers. Out of a passion for genuine live music, Engelien created Go Music. The first concert took place in 1996 in Krefeld, and the concept remains unique to this day: well-known classics from rock, pop, and jazz are reinterpreted live on stage by changing line-ups of top-tier musicians.
Over three decades, more than 300 musicians have performed in around 280 different formations—artists who have worked with major names such as Elton John, Phil Collins, Zucchero, Pur, and Michael Jackson. Names like Ben Granfelt, Vanja Sky, Henrik Freischlader, T. M. Stevens, and Delmar Brown exemplify the outstanding quality of the series.
The release features reinterpretations of tracks such as “Rock’n’Roll Outlaw, ” “Long Train Running, ” “Enjoy the Silence, ” “Kingdom of Desire, ” and “Let’s Dance, ” alongside two original instrumental compositions by Martin Engelien: “Footprint in February” and the nearly 13-minute “Be Kind Everyday. ”
“Unvorherhörbar” captures a special selection of this live magic on record: 15 rock and pop classics on double CD and 10 tracks on double vinyl—recorded live at selected concerts in Krefeld, Ibbenbüren, and Werdohl between 2023 and 2026.
